I’ve taken up the pastime of trying to divine the future based on the randomize function on my car stereo. Shuffle function is the new tea leaves. I predict a good Friday night.

Here’s the problem, though: I’m trying to convince the Thurstons to attend Other Sarah’s rent party tomorrow, and they’re notoriously unwilling to leave their house on two consecutive nights, so I’m not calling them. The Bens and Jim are likely to be celebrating Joe Scum’s birthday, and I’m trying to avoid the inevitable manhandling that would involve, so they’re questionable. Joe Mahon is in Chicago and Ms. Nadeau has enacted an embargo on fun. Travis and Sarah seem apt to spend their respective weekends in dark rooms drinking alone and contemplating ritual suicide.

It’s been a rough battle assembling a quality second string*, but it’s times like this that you guys shine. When the Death Car starts heading east tonight, I’m calling every friend-of-friend, socially awkward shut-in, and girl who went to my high school that my contact list can provide.

Let’s get a hand in, B-squad.



* Being designated second string doesn’t mean you’re any less awesome, or even that I like you any less, it just means you appear like me less than the first row of the social phalanx, so I only bother you on special occasions.
